About

Stories, connection and making the most of life

I’m Angela Robertson, a nonfiction author, speaker and facilitator with a long-standing interest in people, learning, personal growth and the stories that shape our lives.

My work today is centred around helping people reflect, connect and explore what matters to them, whether that is through writing their story, thinking differently about retirement, or simply creating space to consider where they have been and what might come next.

I believe we can continue learning, changing direction and expanding our horizons at any age.

Qualifications & Experience

My professional background includes:

  • PhD
  • Master of Educational Administration with Honours
  • Bachelor of Education Applied
  • Diploma in Tertiary Teaching
  • Accredited StrengthsFinder Coach
  • Team Management Profile (TMI) Facilitator

While these qualifications have shaped my professional experience, the work I enjoy most today is about people, stories, connection and helping others recognise the value in the experiences they have already lived.

A lifelong interest in people and potential

Before focusing more fully on writing and community facilitation, I spent more than 30 years working as a professional learning and development practitioner.

During that time, I worked across complex and geographically dispersed organisations in government, higher education, the private sector, not-for-profit organisations and the wider community.

That experience reinforced something I have always believed strongly: people thrive when they have opportunities to reflect, learn, connect with others and recognise the strengths and experiences they already bring with them.

Those ideas continue to sit at the heart of the work I do today.

Every life contains stories worth preserving

One of the strongest themes running through my work is the value of personal storytelling.

Our stories help us understand where we have come from, recognise the people and experiences that have shaped us and preserve memories that might otherwise be lost.

They might be stories about family, childhood, travel, careers, relationships, difficult times, great adventures or simply everyday moments that have stayed with us.

Through my Write Your Story community workshops, I help people find a comfortable place to begin.

You don’t need to consider yourself a writer. You simply need an open mind and a willingness to give it a go.

Looking differently at ageing

Life can keep getting bigger

I am particularly interested in the possibilities that come with the second half of life.

Ageing does not have to mean narrowing our horizons.

We can continue learning, meeting new people, discovering interests, changing direction and deciding what we want the next stage of life to look like.

This thinking sits behind my Retirement Reinvented community workshops, where people have the opportunity to explore ideas around purpose, identity, connection and what a fulfilling next chapter might look like.

It is also at the heart of my Older and Bolder series of books.
